Have I got an IE virus ...???

Hi,
Well, running W2K Pro with SP2. IE6 with SP1 and latest security patches .... Quite often when I pick a favourite (Scoobynet for example !!!!!!!!!) nothing happens. Like it sits there with no blue bar (but cursor over the window bar goes to an hour glass), or the blue bar moves very slowly and then comes up with 'Cannot display this page'. If I kill the window it quite often comes up with the 'IE has an error. Do you want to send an error report' message.
Sometimes it works fine. But there is no way of knowing why it does. Sometimes it's OK after a reboot. The other half (who has a different user name on the machine) is fine. When things seem to be moving ever so slowly it isn't the network being slow as I have a laptop which shares the connection and that works fine when the main PC is running 'slow'....
SO, have I been infected with something? If so, what?????!!!! Doing a search on the NAI web site (I have McAfee - up to date) is inconclusive as I can't narrow down the search. Just thought someone here may have some clues/memory of a virus that has this effect.
Help...!!

Yep they do. As I am the primary use (with Admin rights) and they are a *normal* user. They use the same connections as me. As do all users. They would have to on W2K ... I can't see how they couldn't actually ... And the XP laptop that shares the connection does the same - or have I missed something in Windoze ...??

Interestingly, this is happening to me as well maybe 3 out of 5 links I'm trying to follow on scoobynet, fiestaturbo and (when it was running), Passionford.
I'm connecting as admin through a gateway/DNS computer on BT broadband. I've tried setting the recommended DNS addresses direct to BT's server or to the gateway and neither setting makes much difference. Have cleared the cache and again, no change.
The only thing that works for me is to close the IE window and start a fresh copy by going to Start > Run > "iexplore www.xyz.co.uk", which then works for a short while before falling on it's **** again.
Also, the problem seems to occur mainly between midday-ish and midnight (i.e. peak UK usage times?).
Very odd...
