quick Q for you.
If my laptop and desktop both have Ethernet ports can I just join them using a CAT5 lead and drag and drop files across ?
laptop = ME
Desktop = XP

Yes, provided:
a) you use a cross-over cable
b) you have enabled file & printer sharing
c) you have shared one or more drives/folders
d) The XP machine has an account with password for the ME machine to use
