Our local exchange gets converted to ADSL in a couple of weeks, so i'm looking for recommendations for ADSL ISP's and hardware (probably get a router). I'm considering paying extra to get a 20:1 contention ratio, as our net connection gets quite a hammering.
At the moment, i've got Plusnet in mind for the ISP.
Would welcome any thoughts people have.
Cheers,
John

When looking at a router make sure you buy an ADSL router instead of a router thats either called Cable/DSL or Broadband router. Reason being is the latter routers don't have built-in modems and only operate with Ethernet ADSL modems. ADSL Router have built-in ADSL modems and plug direct into your telephone line.

I can recommend www.eclipse.co.uk
Very well rated on the ADSLguide, quite cheap and I get a static IP free.

John, you should have said something when we went bowling...I can sort something for you
I work for a Business ISP and our evening/weekend bandwidth usage on our central drops from 32Mbps (just upgrading to a 155Mbps ) to less than 10Mbps off peak - how does £30/month compare?
May have a free router kicking around for you too

Thanks guys.
suba: cheers for the links.. will have a trawl though them to see what i find.
Jon: never even crossed my mind to ask you about it. I think from my limited searching so far, £30/month is about the going rate. As a business ISP, do they not mind domestic customers? Do you have a website that i can have a nosy at?
Ian: my best mate has bagged the referral if i go with plusnet (sorry!), though if they let me name more than one, no probs.
Thanks again guys... will keep me out of mischief for a bit while i do some more research.
