What are some of the best ways to promote yor website other then a decent site and word of mouth?

 

Make sure your META TAGS are relevant with decent keywords, make sure your website is coded accurately (poor coding lowers placement) with relevant text within the page, then submit to google.com; http://www.google.com/addurl.html

 

Yes forget about auto-submitters they are a waste of time, if you want to get your site 'up there' then you either submit yourself or pay someone to do it like these people www.toppile.com, tags are very important, you could also create 'door-way' pages which point to your home page and are named the same as the search expression people would enter into a search engine.

Download the trial version of www.webpositiongold.com. Their is loads of good advice in the help file. You also get a tool which tells you how to optimise a page.

 

I would not use WPG to submit, but some of the other tools are useful.

 

I have used WPG with a certain amount of success. Although it could be more down to the techniques I used..
You need to read up on search engine optimisation though, spend the time now and try to find many different companies theories on how they work. Google search on search engine optimisation will keep you busy for quite a while!

 

Google is increasingly relying on the quality of the sites that link to you to define your ranking.

Therefore, if you can get a link to your site on a high profile site, say Microsoft.com, your ranking will be increased.

Thats just one avenue of the whole game that is Search engines....
