I have checked every setting I can find through properties, tools\accounts and tools\options but cannot find anywhere that has a tick box saying autodisconnect after send/receive.

It only does it when I first open Outlook, not on subsequent manual/receives (I removed this tick).

Anyone got any ideas, as it is driving me mad, and driving me back towards Outlook Express (which doesn't do it on same PC)

Cheers

The only place I can see (which you have problaay checked) is:
Tools|Options|Mail Setup\Dial-up - Hang up when finished with a manual send/receive.

Worth a shot

Thanks Darren,

Tried that one.

I've just reset everything by ticking boxes and then unticking e.t.c. and changed all my mail account settings to connect using browsers setting, except for the first which uses 'phone line' and it seems to have cured it...for now

Angry

I give in...It's doing it again

Has anyone got any idea why?

I've checked every setting I can find but nothing seems to be ticked that could cause this.
It only does it when I first open Outlook, not for any manual Send/Receive.

Have you got it set to dial the connection, if so it may drop the current and then redail.
workaround : always connect to the inet first and have outlook set to not dial.

if i remember right, long time since i used dial up

I have got it set to dial the connection (i.e. phone line).

I did try the other day with the setup you suggested (use browser settings) but got fed up of having to open the browser just to use Outlook.

I'll have another fiddle tonight, as I'm convinced that's the area where I'm getting the problem from.

Cheers

Talking

Sorted!

Looked in Tools\Email Accounts and then "Directory"

Selected view or change and found that I had an LDAP account as well as a MAPI..whatever an LDAP account is..tries to connect to a server or something.

I deleted this and just left the MAPI and it seems ot have fixed it
