ok, got new cpu, blah blah, got new board (ASrock K7VT2), after having probs with previous installation (which was ok prior to upgrade) decided to format and start again, had loads of probs installing windows, got xp on but still getting errors, re installed xp but during install errors reading files - retry, skip etc, formatted several times, now formnatted other hd and installed win98 after 2 attempts its working and writing this, errors reading, oh when had xp on put this other hd on and the modem wouldn't work!!! anyway i reckon the board isn't right but these places are always right!! and takes ages proving them wrong
if this makes any sense, any ideas before i take it back

Simlar-ish position here, I bought a motherboard recently from dabs and it had a faulty AGP slot and a few other things wrong. I tried 2 known working AGP graphics cards in it and would not show a thing. Also it would not run a POST test which it should have even without a graphics card in. After a week of E-mails, Dabs collected the board and said that they will get an engineer to look at it and then issue a refund if it is proved to be faulty. So long winded. If I bought it from PC World, they would have given me a replacement on the spot!!
I'd suggest speaking to the manufacturer, they might have some advice, failing that, speak to the place you bought it from. Some of them can be good returning/replacing things.

It will report a slower processor speed as yours probably needs 133 to run at its rated speed. It does look as if it's the board not able to run at full spec. try it a little higher, you may get close to 133 even if it won't sustain that.

Have you got the lastest version of the bios for the Mobo?
Have you checked the HCL on the Microsoft, maybe there's none problems with Windows and that board.
Have you disabled Video Shadowing and stuff like that?
Is the disk running off the IDE controller or a onboard extra's like RAID etc? You need some form of 3rd party HDD controller before windows will load properly, my board has additional 100 controllers on it and I was running the HDD off it as the primary and secondary IDE controllers were both 33's, Its a son of a bitch to get Windows to load, at the moment I just run off the 33 controller can't say I've noticed a huge difference.
Maybe duff memory? got any spare you can try?
Have you looked on the manufacturers website?
Good Luck

Clock speed of an xp2200 is 1.8ghz the xp2200 part is just amd's way of saying equal to a 2.2 pentium 4, i used to have an xp2200 best i got it to was 1989mhz just as a test but then dropped it down to standard settings which is 133fsb and a 13.5 multiplier i don't know but you might have fried the old chip and or damaged mobo.
