Since installing the following components on my spare PC, my motherboard has defaulted to 1GHz instead of 1.33GHz

- installed heatsink and fan
- installed GeForce4 MX440 AGP
- removed SBLive!

Every time it boots up, the BIOS tells me the vcore and clock have been set to default and despite my attempts in the BIOS, it won't budge from those settings.

I AM entering the right settings aren't I ? (its been a while)...

cput type = Athlon (Thunderbird) 1.33GHz
vcore default 1.7v
frequency 133 / 33 MHz
multiplier x10

It *is* a 133mhz fsb Athlon Processor isn't it? I'm pretty sure there were some 100mhz ones knocking around at the same time.

You know, I can't remember for sure - is there any apps that can ID it for me ? Or will they just try and read my BIOS settings and try to work it out ?

Assuming it was a 100MHz one, the multiplier would be 13.5 x 100?

think the 13.5 multi actually gave like 1346 mhz or something

although you may have a bios that can auto select a 1333 as a "named" processor

I used to have a prog that displayed actual FSB speed, multiplier etc etc that had stepping id and that sort of thing.
Cant remember the name, but im sure download.com has it
If you can get the stepping id you can find exatly what the chip was

search under overclocking and things like that. Sure the author was Yoshi or something similar

The default core is 1.75V for socket 462-based Athlon (thunderbird) and duron(spitfire) processors.

www.cpuid.com provides a utility called CPU-Z, which is similar to Wcpuid, which robski mentioned

Personally, I don't remember a 1350 Athlon CPU. I remember them coming in the following flavours from 1ghz upwards:

1Ghz (10x100 cpu and 7.5x133)

1.1Ghz (11x100)

1.13Ghz (8.5x133)

1.2Ghz (12x100 and 9x133)

1.26Ghz (9.5x133)

1.3Ghz (13x100)

1.33Ghz (10x133)

1.4Ghz (14x100 and 10.5x133)

Cheers All, which check at the office tomorrow.

Like I said, I've tried both 133 x 10 and 100 x 13, but either way it posts then tells me the vcore and clock settings have been reset to default.

Looking in the manual (mainboard MSI 6341 aka K7 Master), it tells me "If the ATX supply is interrupted or has power failure, the BIOS menu will appear provide the following message"

"Warning CPU Ratio and CPU VCore has been restored to Default Value. Please press DELETE to enter SetUp and Remember to Save before Exit"

Thing is I'm not sure why this message will have come up out of the blue. Like I said, I only removed a few bits and added a few bits.

Solved the problem.

Turns out when I gave the motherboard a good looking over, the jumper for the "reset cpu clk" had actually fallen off.

A quick hunt around and new jumper on, solved the problem!
