Question

Hi. Just loaded up Opera to give it a whirl. Anyone got any top tips on the best way of configuring it?

I've been a long time IE user and TBH don't have any complaints. Which do you have a preference for?

Cheers
Iain

Good choice, Opera is a great browser, far better than the slow IE in my opinion. I read last night that the latest IE6 is going to be the last standalone version of IE, from now on it'll all be part of the OS

Up to you how you configure it of course, most of it is where you want the icons to be and such, but I've found it useful to learn the mouse gestures for navigation, saves a lot of time.

Can't see myself using anything else for a while unless I have no other choice, I've been using Safari the past few weeks on my iMac and I don't much like it at all.

Steve.

Oh, just thought - is it possible to bring my favourites across from IE?

Note - haven't tried looking yet, just thought of it, so if it is dead easy ya can't flame me!!

Not sure about adding the favourites to the Hotlist but another user here of Opera (6 and 7 as 7 is a bit buggy sometimes ) and pointed V5 towards it IIRC?

The mouse gestures are cool. Right click and move mouse right to go forward. Right click and left for back, right click and down for new window etc etc - a very useful trick! Always end up doing it when I go back to IE though and it don't work LOL!

Me too!

And if it doesn't load a page correctly, its because the underlying page is using illegal HTML

yes, under one of the menus, import IE favourites I think??

http://www.opera.com/support/search/....dml?index=427

Upon installation of Opera, the program will automatically search your system and try to import Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer bookmarks, but you can always import them manually at a later time.

In order to import bookmarks manually, please pull down the File menu, select "Import", then choose to import your bookmarks from Netscape or Internet Explorer.

When you import Netscape bookmarks, they will be placed in a new folder - "Bookmarks for [your name]".

Internet Explorer Favorites will be imported to the current folder, so you may wish to create a new folder for these first.

Good work fellas! Some good replies and info coming.

And yes, SJ, you can take the "credit" for me trying Opera!

Will have to try the mouse navigation in a mo!

WRT the speed it does seem quicker some of the time, but not all the time.

It doesn't share your IE cache, that may have a small part to play.

I must say I quite like it so far. I never really had a problem with IE6, but this does seem a little bit faster (I think you're prolly right about the caching, SC).

I am getting into the habit of using the mouse navigation to go back! The behaviour when using the wheel to scroll isn't quite as good as when in IE, but I can live with it.

So what is it about Opera that you guys like?
