Hey all,
Hopefully someone is gonna know this. I have downloaded a file from kazaa, the name is Maid.In.Manhattan.DVDRip.XviD.FIXED.avi. Now i can view the movie in media player etc just fine but is there any way to get this onto cd so that i can view it in a household dvd player? The obvious problem im guessing is size as the file is 713mb in size which is bigger than a cd although im sure theres more to it than just burning it to a cd?
Cheers
David

you need to burn it to CD as a VCD. there are are few apps abouot for this, though I think its quite a lenghty process.
try the nero wizard to create a vcd, there may be something there

try TMPGenc this will let you re-encode it to vcd, svcd, then you will need to split the mpg's into 2 or 3 discs, then you can watch on your standalone player if it plays CDR VCD's etc
depending on the speed of your machine, it can take a few hours to convert

I have a couple of decent apps to do just this. They're not big so I could probably attach them to an e.mail if you like.
If the .avi has compressed sound it's a bit more complicated to convert to vcd.
It takes about 12hours per film and usually breaks it in two.

YOu could just simply watch it on your computer using Power DVD.
Otherwise you will need to:
1. Download the correct DIVX Codec for that film (Nimo codec pack will have all)
2. Download Virtual Dub to rip the sound from the AVI file (Virtual dub will preview avi file and tell you frame rate (PAL OR NTSC)
3. Download TPMGENC to convert AVI to Mpeg1 (VCD) Make sure you ise correct frame rate conversion. (attatch sound clip from cirtual dub and avi file)
4. Once converted to mpeg1 Use NERO to create a VCD then Voila.
Hope this helps.
If you need the software, let me knoew and i can email it to you.

I mailed a few apps this morning and a guide.
If none of that can do what you want, try visiting:

"YOu could just simply watch it on your computer using Power DVD"
"How can I play this on a hosuehold DVD player"
Rest my case
(he wants to view it on a normal dvd player, ie so he can watch it on the telly, take it to a friends, not sit at his computer and watch it)

converting to vcd or dvd is not as simple a process as one would first assume. vcd is probably easier but again the divx or avi file need to be encoded properly (i.e VCD 2.0 compliant) to work in most(not all) dvd players. conversion to dvd is a major cluster **** and involves alot of work dependant on whether it is a PAL or NTSC disc. if anyone knows how to do DIVX or AVI or MPEG2 files to DVD format easily then email me per profile and let me know coz i think it is a major PITA.
