Hello

Is there anyway of telling what Codec a movie requires?

I have DivX but have just downloaded a movie that doesn't want to work (the sound does though bizarely enough), any suggestions as to the best DivX to download?

Thanks,

Steve.

Yeah,

use GSpot to tell which which codec's and filters you need. You need the right audio, video and often directshow renderers too.

Look for the Nimo Codec pack, this allows you to specify exactly which components to install, rather than DivX exe's which are less specific.

The concensus seems to be only install those which you require, rather than a scattergun approach as they can and do conflict.

Hello

Thank you for your help, the movie now plays.

Although I just had to explain to my wife what the file "G-Spot" was doing on my computer!

Steve.

Me too, Nimo mucked up my audio settings, had to wipe it and just install the codecs I wanted individually, best way.

But that's what Nimo does?

I've found it works well as you can un-check everything except the individual codecs and filters you need, and NOTHING else you don't??

Yeah, thats what I did, but it installed some other cr@p too. Some audio codec software had the same file name as MSN Messanger and made a right mess. Distorted all of my audio and was impossible to remove.
