Default Panasonic WMA Headunit Vs Media Player WMA Codec 9.1

Hi All

I Have a Panny CQ-RDP383N MP3/WMA CD headunit in the car and after many wasted CDRs have established that my files encoded with WMA codec 9.1 since updating Windows Media Player 10 are not recognised by the HU.

I'm not sure when I did the update, but I think the change in codec was more recent than my changing from WMP 9 to 10. How can I force WMP to rip using the older WMA 9 codec which worked fine in the car even using VBR? Presumably 9.1 uses better algorithms but I've not noticed the difference, is there anything else I'll be missing out on?

I've had a google for any updated firmware for the HU but can't find anything; that would be the best solution if anyone knows anything from that point of view.

The installation of WMA 9.1 searches out and overwrites the 9.0 codec. Nice isn't it. This is one reason I stick with LAME.

Maybe try and install the original WMP 9 Series Codecs from MS or grab the K-Lite Codec Pack since that still seems to have the v9 codec.

Thanks for the reply. It seems the converse isn't true and installing 9.0 doesn't overwrite 9.1 - grrr! Any idea how to get rid of the 9.1 codec altogether before installing 9.0 again? I guess switching to using mp3 is one answer but I always thought you get better sound per bps from wma.

Cheers,
Ben
