Question

Has anyone set-up IP redundancy (Load balancing?) on a WIN2K server?

Our new server has 2 Ethernet ports and we want both to be the same IP address so if one goes down the other takes over with the same address so users would not realise the difference.

I found this but was wondering if anyone else has it set up.

Thanks
Darren

NLB is more pitched at multilple physical servers.

Adapter teaming is the way to go - what make / model of server is it?

Sounds like HSRP, but I think that's Cisco proprietary

Different levels of teaming:

1) Adapter Fault Tolerance - 1 active card / 1 backup - purely for fault tolerance
2) Adaptive Load Balancing - Just requires a switch - does improve performance
3) Fast EtherChannel (FEC) (also in Gigabit) - requires specific switch side support

Thanks all.

All we want is the use the second NIC as a backup link. i.e Cable one gets disconnected so cable two takes over.

The server is a Dell Poweredge 2650 with 2 x Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Broadcom. I just found this document on the DELL website. I'll have a read and dig out the CD's
