I'm looking for a mail client to use in place of Outlook/Outlook Express. Main requirements are ability to use more than one POP3/SMTP email account, a better visual incoming email notification than Outlook / OE and ease of use for inexperienced users.

I am trying Incredimail at the moment, but it makes outgoing emails huge and I do not particularly need 75% of what it does.

Alternately, are there any bolt-ons/plug-ins available for OE to give enhanced email notification?

Try Eudora - I've used it for several years with no problems.

When you say better - what exactly are you looking for? IMO Outlook is the best all-round email client out there

I need a better notification message than the tiny envelope in the tray, bearing in mind users do not have soundcards so cannot have audible notification.

Would also prefer one that minimises on close (as opposed to closing) and has to be closed by exiting separately (if that makes sense), to give more chance of the client remaining open/active (It's an automatic reflex to click the X when finished with a program)

Check out Outlook 11 which is in beta at the moment, the mail notification is greatly improved - shows a ghosted out kinda preview of the sender/subject/first few lines of the message.

Outlook 2003/11

Very impressed with it, takes a bit of getting used to the different interface initially.

If there's no soundcard installed it should 'beep'.

Thanks Miles, Ian, will look into that.

jlanng, yes it does, but in a noisy office is not really enough.

Incredimail has some good notifiers that appear on the screen to alert you to new mail, and stay until you go and read it.
