Am looking at getting myself a shiny new 17" TFT screen, got a budget of about £300+VAT, any to avoid? any bargains?

Look for a screen that can refresh <16ms so you don't perceive any blurring.
Only the newer TFT screens have this feature, so do your homework.
As stated, look for the new Hitachi or NEC models (both use same screen)

As well as NEC and Hitachi, LG and ACER both have monitors based on the same panel. The LG 1710B is a slighlty slower version with 20ms total response as they have adjusted the brightness slighlty. The ACER Al732 has the same spec as the NEC 1760 and and the ACER 712 has the 20ms refresh.
Viewsonic also have a montior based on this panel but it has no DVI.

look for TFT that use super IPS (or just IPS) or MVA technology. older TFT are usually TN+Film technology. having said that, the hitachi using TN+Film is just as good as TFT using IPS or MVA.
