Try playing the files through Media Player for the Mac.

You just have to have Media Player installed and then in explorer make sure that the file helper for wmv files is set to be Media Player and you open in the application rather than using a plugin. That should work.
I persoanlly hate WMV and thinks its appalling compared the Quicktime.
