Question

Just picked up a 2nd hand iPAQ 3630 - no ActiveSync software with it so I downloaded the most recent version from MS. Unfortunately it seems like my PC can't see the iPAQ for whatever reason It's connected to a serial port using the cradle, and is on etc.

Any thoughts??

ActiveSync->File->Connection Settings

Is it set to allow serial connections?

no expert but...

run add new harware wizard and try to install manually

or

check system/hardware to see if it is attached? to a com port.

or

check in bios to see if serial port is enabled ( had this problem on an old laptop once)

have you got any other items you can plug into the serial port to test it ?, like a mouse etc.

Tried looking in the ActiveSync>File>Connection Settings bit, but it keeps trying to run the "Get connected" wizard, where it tells me that COM!, 2 and 3 are available but the device was not detected

sometimes you need to poke the little button at the bottom to reset it. also check the connection settings on the ipaq.

I now use a USB connection (same iPaq), but when I used the serial connection I had to twek the handshaking set-up/config on the serial port before it would connect. Can't remember all the details (was quite some time ago) - but I had to change more than port speed.
