Right, this is a long one so pull up a seat.

My primary hdd (XP) decided to go **** up and not boot up (froze on the XP screen) at the time i had just bought another hdd and now i am using that as my primary (XP) .

My new primary hdd can see the old hard drive , can access it and see various files etc.. but i cant get access to any of "my documents" or any of my work. (really pissing me off). I think it is to do with me having multiple users on the computer and having to have PW access to it.

I just saw in another thread about copying hdd. Would be this a good avenue to explore ? Or would i still have the same problems trying to access the information ?

Help is much appreciated , if i have been vague or you wish to know anything else then please say so.

Thanks
Brett

Not running NTFS on the drives by any chance?

If so, select either the drive properties or select all files in the route etc and replace the old ownership credentials making sure to overwrite permissions in sub folders etc. Or simply right click on documents and settings and perfoem the same thing if just heving problems with stuff in there.

Not got ntfs running here on xp pro, so cannot remember exactly what to look for. Basically, select take ownership in the advanced/security properties.

Hope thi is what is causing the problem for you.

Cheers,

Nick
