Question

"If you've got an ntl:home Broadband Internet connection and an Xbox, you're on your way to joining the online gaming revolution! We've designed our new Broadband + Console service to make it easy to hook up to Xbox Live™ with no changes to your computer settings.

Xbox Live lets you play multiplayer console games with people around the world. If you enjoy games (and, let's face it, who doesn't?!), this is for you. The future of gaming really has arrived! Imagine having a sofa full of friends ready to play against no matter what time of day or night it is. You'll also be able to download new levels and items for your titles, keeping everything fresh and exciting.

1. An installed ntl:home Broadband connection via a stand alone cable modem
2. The Broadband + Console service from ntl:home
3. An Xbox games console
4. An Xbox Live Starter Kit from Xbox (includes your subscription to Xbox Live)

When you order our Broadband + Console service for Xbox we'll send you a connection pack containing any hardware and cabling you'll need to connect your Xbox in addition to your computer, and we'll upgrade your connection. We've designed our Broadband + Console service to be really simple to set up, so you'll be enjoying Xbox Live within minutes of receiving your connection pack.

Once you've set it up for the first time you won't need to disconnect your computer each time you want to play Live. That's because, with our Broadband + Console service, you'll be able to connect your Xbox and your computer at the same time.

Plus, you'll get a voucher for three months free subscription to the Official Xbox Magazine, the most reliable source of Xbox information available, including exclusive game demos every month."

Hows that gonna work with no 'no extra hardware'?
I hope they're not thinking of using USB for the PC and the ethernet link for the xbox.

They send you a hub and give you an extra IP address.

Question

Is it really worth it?
Any real advantage over the current system of switching the cable when I want to use one or the other? (other than the obvious, but then why lag your xbox gaming by having the pc share the modem?)

I never managed to get the second IP working so can't comment. My Xbox connects via my router and I've never had any trouble. Don't tell NTL though. I think the only advantage would be the cable switching.

And Pinkeye wonders why I kept trying to ram the idea of a router down his throat....

He's welsh, he's tight, don't hold that against him
