Question

I've recently bought a new digital camera which is really showing up the poor quality of my printer which is an HP and around 4 years old (can't remember the model).

I want to be able to print to atleast A4 size and not spend a fortune (around £400 max)

Any suggestions on what is the best printer around at the moment & why ?

I know the camera will out perform the printer up to A4 and will get the best shots printed professionally, but I do want something at home for those instant prints.

Al

Have a look at the pcpro magazine's web site (the review section) - www.pcpro.co.uk.

The Epson 950 is currently favorite, although I think the runing costs are quite high.

regards, Mark.

OK thanks

I've found these prices so the Canon looks favorite so far -
£513 for the Epson or
£385 for the Canon

Anyone know of any better offers ?

The reputed 'top end' printers are:

Canon S9000 - A3 etc, very fast, some questions on light-fastness of inks
Canon S900 - A4, and as above
...but coming up on the rails is the Canon i950

Epson 2100 - A3 etc, panoramas and CDs. Slow. Superb quality. Ink a bit on the pricey side. Some questions over nozzle clogging.

HAve a look at the Printers and Printing forum on www.dpreview.com - these are the printers talked about the most

Type S9000 into the Keywords search here ... and it's £317 inc. VAT plus £25 P+P (I think). Just gotta wait until they're in stock Bro-in-law has bought from them (all goods shipped from France) with no hassle at all. Would probably go for the special offer of S9000 plus a spare set of inks for £341 myself.

Epson 2100 is similar price to what you found at http://www.dabs.com, but they are doing 10% down, pay rest in 2004...and there were some in stock today...
