hi ppl.
two problems here and poss a few questions - sorry
1 - on attempting to make a cd with nero, burning about 300mb of word files, it stops, the recorder buffer level drops, kicks out the cd and shows the error message 'power on,reset or bus device reset occured' and it has also show a message when trying again, 'end of user area on this track'.
any ideas people?
2 - i installed Max Payne (game), but as soon as you go to begin the game, it kicks you out back to windows.
The same happened on Vice city too.
?
a few stupid qustions...
whats a:
ethernet controller,
multimedia controller,
ans SM bus controller.
they are all under the heading of other device
thanks in advance for any help

ethernet controller is a network card
mutli media controller is either your graphics card or an additional tv type capture card
Sm i'm guessing you have a smart media card reader connected.
click start -> control panel -> system -> device manager -> hardware tab and see if and thing has exclamation mark on it click item try to update drivers

Is this under Windows 98?
Sounds like Windows has been installed but all the drivers have not been added later. SM Bus could be the chipset driver, needs to be installed first after Windows has been reinstalled.
Is it an i810/815 motherboard (Pentium 3 or Celeron)?

1. what speed are you burning your cdr? maybe drop down to 4x or even 2x just to be safe. and when the cdr is burning, dont use your PC.
2. probably drivers are not properly installed. check in device manager. update the drivers either by downloading them from the internet or from the floppy/cdrom that comes with the peripherals.

Not sure about Vice City - this should be fine in XP.

To get rid of those yellow question marks either install the correct drivers for them or disable them.
Hope any of this helps

On nero I would be tempted to go to file, preferances, cache and see if there is less free disk space allocated then the capacity of the image trying to burn - ie less than 700 Mb. Nero is also fairly memory intensive but its best leaving it on Automatic configuration (Underbuffer tag)- provided you have more than 64Mb of memory in your pc.

hi guys
well after re-installing XP yet again, found the drivers for the board, installed, re activated windows again.....
its all working :-)
Thanks to everyone that helped me sort this thing out.
Max Payne still wishes to not work and kicks me back to windows, yet Vice city is running. (dont look bad either)
Now, yes, not everthing is good, ive still got 'game port for creative' show a !
ive re-installed the drivers, but that did not do it?
so again, any chance of some help please.
many, many thanks

Duno if you sorted the CD bruning thing? But if youve got a cut down version of nero, u might find that it will bomb out on long file names....
this has known too work but just use it for back up..
Zip all the content of the folder full of files,
burn the zip ;-) if it all goes on, u'll find it was a file being funny or a strange file name causing u greif.
some things are simple...i'm one of those things! hehe
