Question

I want to link my iBook with my RoadAngel's GPS output but need a cable, any ideas? I have tried Blackspot's support but they have not come back with anything as yet.

I suppose an iBook is made by Apple?

Do you have a serial port on the iBook? Or a USB port?

Does the Road Angel have a serial port? What type? What cable comes with it?

H,

The iBook is indeed an Apple, it does not have a serial interface just USB and firewire. The RoadAngel has a serial interface for DB update and a jack plug for the GPS output but no cable supplied.

I'm not sure if you can get gps data out of a Road Angel. But if that is possible and its done via the serial connection, then you can use a USB to Serial converter to get the gps data.

A USB to Serial converter costs around 10-30 pounds. But be sure to get one that supports MacOS.

You might be able to test it with the supplied cable and something like AutoRoute?

Why not try the serial lead supplied with the RA to update the database?

You never know?

I will try the serial lead with a USB converter, I need the converter anyway so it is not money wasted.

Try the keyspan one. We should have them in stock at MacWarehouse. Give the main sales line a buzz tomorrow on 08705 209555

Burr is correct, the serial cable that comes with the Road Angel for updates is the one to use to hook up to a laptop etc.
I have done so on mine and it works fine, bought infomap software as that it what is recommended by Road Angel. Not sure about Macs though.
As I understand it Autoroute will not work with the Road Angel as the baud rates are not the same (Road Angel is 9600).
The jack you mentioned is actually for add ons, a laser alert unit is in developement at the moment which plugs into the jack plug.
