Ahh ! exactly the same problem as a mate of mine's computer.(nismo) been trying to suss it out for ages...
Nothing short of a complete format seems to fix it.
please someone answer this question.
Can it be fixed without the need to "start again".
(he didn't want me to re-boot/format, at the time...)

Ah ha ! fooled it
C: > program files > Internet explorer >
DELETE
a few items it wouldn't let me delete
but it was enough to fool it into ALLOWING me to re-install version 6
(before, it would say I had the most recent version installed and closed the setup screen automatically, not allowing me to "overwrite" the current install)
Thanks anyway darlodge, sussed it in the end.

There's a virus kicking around at the moment that is opening up tiny windows and not allowing you to remove them.
Check out the 'free scan' facility on the mcaffee.com website to see if you have it.

Darlodge - couldn't see a virus on that page.
The one I'm referring to is a Trojan called JS/NoClose - ts pretty harmless but will mess around with home pages and unlocseable windows, etc... Could explain his problem.
