I am pretty sure I'm on to a loser here, but it's worth a go...
At the weekend my IBM deskstar (40Gb version - NOT the 75GB!!) died. I have managed to retrieve 80% of my important data from it, but I would like to get that last 20%. The trouble is that it was residing on the damaged area of the drive.
On the plus side, IBM are going to replace it FOC under warranty
All suggestions, however daft are welcome. (Including putting it in the freezer!)

Thanks. I'll have a look
I don't want to spend money, as what I've lost isn't that critical - it will all turn up again in time - it's just annoying to have to collect a load of email addresses again etc.
Norton utils didn't help much, but then I didn't expect them to.

There's a free trial version of the Ontrack software, so you can see what you'll get back before having to shell out.
It saved almost everything from a HD we had come in that had been hit by the CIH virus (so long FAT table).

I found one called PC inspector File recovery, it will handle FAT, FAT32 NTFS! It is free to use and worked wonders when I needed it (sorry no web addy - just do a search for it)
