Question

I have just upgraded my motherboard processor and ram.

ECS K7M Mobo
AMD Athlon XP2000+
512MB PC133 RAM

Also I have a :
MSI Geforce 3 TI200 128MB DDR
Creative soundblaster live 1024
20GB 7200RPM Maxtor or Seagate (Can't remember) Oh actually could be western digital
3Comm Network Card
Cd Rom IDE
250MB Zip drive IDE
Estar Case inc 300 or 350 W PSU

Everytime I install Windows XP it installs fine.
Then I go to change the resolution and click ok and BANG it reeboots.
I do the same again and its ok.
Then I install a game (Medal of Honour Allied Assault) and it decides to reeboot half way through installation.
Now I cannot finish the install or remove or repair so I wipe the PC and start again.
Same thing happens. (AARRRGGHHH!!)

I then decide to reseat everything and reinstall.
It does it again.

I'm about ready to kick the **** out of it!!!

Please can someone help me???

A very unhappy and annoyed Stevep

I have had problems with ECS motherboards before - try setting the cpu speed to much slower. If it then works is cos the motherboard is crappy.

What excact model motherboard is it ?

WWSD as it says above it's a ECS K7M.
Have not tried lowering the CPU speed yet.

Is your RAM one 512MB stick or 2 x 256MB?

I'd suggest maybe stripping out the soundcard, NIC and running with just one stick of RAM (if possible).

Then re-install and see if things improve. If a basic setup is stable, change one thing at time untill it falls on it's **** again.

That's my way of approaching these things.

Try the most basic config possible. If that's flakey, then you have an iffy mobo or other core component.

Is the heatsink & fan installed on the CPU properly? Did you use some thermal grease?

What would Scooby Do, you are right and I have the same problem with one of my mates PC's.

Not exactly the same but the same motherboard and when I switch them CPU/RAM speed from 133MHZ to 100MHZ "LA DA" it does not crash.

I'm now convinced the ECS K7M does not like Windows XP Pro.
Because a guy from work has one is using Win2K.
Works fine!!!
*****!!
What the hell am I supposed to do now.
One motherboard that can't run at full pelt cause of the OS.
Oh and I have flashed the BIOS to the lastest vers.

God I'm close to just buying another now.

Oh well if any of you have any thoughts let me know??

Thanks

Steve
