I was going to ask if the PS2's DVD Drivers were updateable as I've been having a hell of a time making my US PS2 run Region 2 (Europe) DVD's
I believe only the PS2 had updateable DVD drivers.

From what I heard, I thought that NTSC Jap & US machines cannot play Region 2 Pal DVD's even with modchips, DVD Region x and what not. SOmething to do with not being able to recognise Pal, not quite too sure so don't quote me on that. About the drivers thing, I thought that was only on the 1st & 2nd gen Jap machines?
