Question

XP with or without SP1. VirusScan 4.51 SP1 installed ok. Then after rebooting the Vshield icon doesn't appear in the taskbar any more... any ideas???

Fast user switching is disabled by the way....

Worth checking the event viewer. There might be a message from the virus checker for why it couldn't start.

Microsoft state that version 4 is not compatible with XP. I had huge problems with it.

You need to upgrade to VS 6 at least.

This happens all the time on the machines at work - and not just on XP.

I beleive its when the download of new sigs/components is blocked (ie firewall at night). It can be temporarily sorted by killing the process (myagttry.exe on VirusScan ASaP which we use) and then re-running it (%windir%\mycio\agent\myagttry.exe on ours).

VirusScan ASaP is very different to version 4.51. They share an engine and an icon. That's about it.
