Cool

Somone is hosting a website on our behalf. I want to get the site & run it internally whilst I set up our new system.

I haven't got ftp access. I've asked them to zip the contents & email them over but they are taking forever & a day ( ). Is there a way I can get all the pages downloaded from the site inc all the CSS tables etc?

All legit etc but they're busier than my timescales...

There used to be a cool prog called Web Downloader that i used on our coompany intranet a couple of years back, but it was updated and renamed to something else.

Have a search on download.com, jumbo.com, etc.

Dave

** Just found a site - its now called Offline Explorer and this is the site.

Let me just jump in here and provide a clickable link with a bit of self-publicity.

Yes, you want WebReaper - crafted by my own fair hand, and free to the likes of you.

Only if you register your copy as a result of seeing it here. Which, of course, is unlikely, knowing you bunch of tight b@stards.

Mark,

Is this thing worth downloading or does it work the same way as yours does (with the fixes )

Why change if yours does what I want?

Question

I don't know if it works better than mine. Funnily enough, I only use mine - if I find a problem or lacking feature that WebReaper needs, I just add it.

Question

MarkO,

Just a quick question. I was looking for something that would download a site *ahem* **** *ahem but it trys to stop you by not allowing the downloads and hiding stuff, as well as disabled right click etc. Can it get past these?

Cool

Yep, it will. The only thing it can't do is follow links which are generated by Javascript. So it depends on the site. I'm not aware of any offline browser which can follow JS links yet, though.

Mark,

downloaded this and tried to run it on work pc, behind usual security functions.

Although it appears to install correctly (win2k), it does not run, caliming abnormal termination. While logged on as administrator to 'this computer' it runs ok - I take it this is just a administrator privileges thing, and not a firewall thing? We have several things blocked from the office, like otmail and messanger, copernic etc etc

Unhappy

Must be an admin thing. Although it shouldn't crash if it fails to find a connection!

Gareth,

whos did you download?

Marks or the other?

Use Filemon and watch the process, see which dll's it calls and check that the system account has permissions to these..

Cool

WebReaper uses WinINet (i.e., Internet Explorer). So if you can't access the files via IE, you won't be able to get 'em with WR.

David,

it was webreaper I downloaded.

When I am logged on to the network as me it crashes without starting anything. When logged on to 'this computer' it runs fine, but then i dont have any connection to the internet(via lan and 1meg connection. )

I just need to convince the IT girl that its justified that I need it. I would prefer if it was called something else, like 'work improver' and also if it came withsomething to block the way the server sees how much each user downloads in a week, it would be excellent.
