Got a pair of Precision 530 delivered today. Wacking great big power supplies, twin Xeons, twin 15k SCSI disks etc. But, wow, how quiet are they ? First time I've been impressed with hardware for quite a while.

Dell's 18 inch LCD panel ain't too shoddy either.

Cheers

Ian

Yep, really quiet. Actually a tower, but yeah, desktop machine really rather than server.

the new compaq evo range is also silent in operation - only problem is my boss keeps turning his off when it's already on and in power save mode

Yep, must admit. Cabled them both up, sorted the screen out, keyboard, mouse etc. Hit the power buttons on the front of the 530's and thought I hadn't plugged them in. Had to actually check the power cords were in the back

Just have to persuade the boss to replace my aging (over 6 months old ) Precision 330 with one of these for my development machine. My 330 sounds like a bag of spanners in comparison

Not enough toys.....

Cheers

WWSD
512k on the 2.4GHz Xeons we specified.

ChristianR
Can't say how much, as the price is part of an enabling contract at work and hence commercial-in-confidence, or so I am told. Sorry

Link for the Precision 530

Cheers

As always, I tried to slip in a few extras to the order, and if asked, blame it on the web page. However, this time the kit order was checked over by someone who is actually savvy rather than a purchasing drone so didn't get away with the 'extras'
