Just about to upgrade one of our PC's to XP - currently running '98.
What I need to understand is whether we go for Pro or Home?
The PC is part of a workgroup with another machine running XP Pro and connects to the net for email and ftp, but thats about it?
Any ideas?
thanks
Neil
ps - thanks for all the help on the "cheapest place for broadband" thread I posted - now ordered NTL 512k for 24.99 a month inc activation, install and modem!! comes 25/9

thanks folks, Darlodge - no I'm not a geek, PC's are used for work purposes.
I think XP home should be ok as we dont need to set up a domain, workgroup will be fine.
Now, wheres the cheapest place to get it? Dabs?
thanks
Neil

Buy an OEM version from scan.co.uk - if you buy a bit of hardware, i.e. a 5 quid mouse you can get the OEM version (of Pro) for £100 + vat rather than fecking about on Ebay.
They also sent me two copies by mistake, which was nice (long since sold)

By the wording of your post you indicate that it is a work PC or you are a geek and have a few machines at home . Is it a work PC connected to a LAN?
One of the biggest draw backs of Windows XP Home is that it can't connect to a domain. It has to sit in a Workgroup.
Other than that have a look at Microsoft
