doh - I read yer post backwards - yes u can but unless you need security it's not worth the hassle in the event of disk problems... fat32 is easier to boot into and recover files..

NTFS is better performance. If things do go **** up, you can boot from a diskette that'll allow you to read your files off NTFS. Or, if things go **** up, you can install XP on a spare hard disk, put the non-booting disk somewhere in your IDE chain and you'll be able to read.
I run NTFS. YMMV

I was running NTFS until last week when the file system freaked out and I could not recover even with a boot disk, anyways I reformatted the drive this week and used FAT32 - seems just as fast, if not faster (mainly 'cos some crap has gone)..

I have read somewhere that if you convert from fat32 to ntfs it will not be as fast as a straight install with full ntfs from start...how true it is I don't know as never could be arsed to find out.....it's like difference between P3-500 & P3-800 can you really tell the difference
