Just been offered a new processor by a m8. My present one is 266mhz, and the new one is 350mhz. What sort of improvements should i expect from my system?
Thanks

Brun,
what do you actully use a PC for? If it's only used for surfing then you'd be better spending you cash on a broadband connection. Upgrading a PII266 to a PII350 will technically give you a faster system but when taking into account other slower components (hard disk) then the processor will still be waiting for them to complete their tasks before it can continue.
If you are playing games, then 266 to 350 will make no real difference, you'd be better upgrading your video card and adding in more system memory.
Let me know what you want/need a PC for and I'll help you out with what upgrades are appropriate. (I do this for a living!)

But if the p2-350 is free, then go for it. Nothing to lose.
But if he is selling it then its worth a pint of beer, still cheap for a bit of speed.
But if you want to go faster then your limited by motherboard support.

It's not worth spending a load of money upgrading, but memory is dirt cheap and should be your first upgrade on a older PC, you need at least 128Mb, but the more the better.
The processor upgrade is worthwhile, but I wouldn't pay more that 20 quid for it.

Already got me Broadband. 196mb of ram on board.
Puter only really used for Internet with a mix of Adobe and Sound Forge thrown in. No games, got my PS2 for that.
Only paying a tenner
