Ever since last night my PC keeps blowing the fuse in the plug connected to the PSU on my home PC

I did it the first time, thoughts of having to buy a new PSU went through my head, but I soon realised it was just the fuse in the plug. I've changed 2 now and expect this one to blow too.

Anyone got any idea why this is happening ? Is the PSU not powerful enough or on the way out ? Its quite new.

The PSU is 300w and is running an Athlon 1.2Ghz, ECS K7S5A, GF2MX400, DVD, CDRW, 2 HDD's, 1 FDD, SB Live Platinum & NIC.
Could do with an excuse to buy a new quiet PSU

Sounds like a short in the wire from the plug to the PSU someplace. There should be an internal fuse underneath all the casing that you are unlikely to see. That should protect the actual PSU itself & I'd've thought it would have a lower rating to that of the plug to be safe. Is the fuse rating too low on the plug? ***** or cut in the lead to the PSU? Try using a different one & see what happens.

Tried a completely different cable the first time it blew. This cable had a 13amp fuse in it and it still blew

If you're blowing a 13 amp fuse I would swap out that power supply.

Iain

Note : Are you plugging it into a wall socket or a 4-way socket.
If it is a 4-way socket, check it out as well.

Your power supply sounds VERY dangerous.

If it's blowing a 13amp fuse, it must be sinking at least 3,000 Watts, which is more than a 2 bar electric fire!

DON'T USE IT!!!

Exclamation

Might explain why my electricity bill has gone through the roof !!

Time to replace it methinks. Only about 6 months old though

Anyone recommend a good, quiet, suitable replacement ?
