Could someone explain many to many and one to many relationships
#2
You have started many threads on Scoobynet. Each of the threads you have started is only started by you. The relationship between you and the threads you have started is one-to-many.
Many people have contributed to many of the threads you have started. Any particular thread has many contributors. The relationship between people and the threads they have contributed to is many-to-many.
You can model a one-to-many data relationship in a physical database by putting a foreign key in the 'many' table that points back to the primary key in the 'one' table'.
You can't do this in a many-to-many data relationship. You need a 'linking' table that contains two foreign keys - one to the primary key of one of the tables and one to the primary key of the other table.
Easy eh?
PS Damn - I've broken my rule of never replying to any of your threads since you dissed me so much last time. But you did ask the other day to point out any simple questions you've ever asked on Scoobynet....

Ref your 2nd question.

..very (well, a little bit actually) interesting. Can't say I've ever come across it in any real world applications though..
