Yes it is totally possible
Using either BT or IR to connect to my T39
What are you intending to use to connect to the internet? I'm hoping you say GPRS? Well, if no, you should as its quicker & whats the point of having a GPRS phone otherwise.
If that is the case, then you need to ensure that you have GPRS enabled on the phone. Your network will sort this for you by txting settings to you, which get installed. Ensure that you state clearly what you want to do, as there are a number of different access levels (Wap over GPRS, Internet over GPRS, VPN over GPRS) & that will get you the required package. You then need to download from the network a small s'ware package (Connect Me for Voda etc) to install on your lappy.
Double-click on the s'ware, click connect, & off you should go. Do that first & make sure its connected before opening explorer (change connection settings there too).

If you want to pay for GPRS then yep you can use that.
I've got mine set up just to be a normal modem.
Basically you download the modem setup file from sony-ericsson.
Once installed you are away and running.
Switch on the infrared port on the phone, place it next to the laptops port. The laptop should make a noise and you'll see the infrared icon on the toolbar change to 2 way communication.
( You may have to manually add an IRDA T68(i) as a modem.)
Things to note :
If you are on a certain orange tarif ( can't remember which) you can use you're free minutes to dial up.
All other networks charge you for internet access ( dial up numbers aren't usually covered by you're free minutes, so to check phone you're provider and ask)

Freeserve used to be covered in Vodafone's free minutes - 9.6K access was the only way I could get through all the minutes they gave me.
Not so anymore
back to pay-as-you-go
