Any of you Mac guys out there should check out the apple site to see the monstrous new PowerMacs. Massive perfomance ven from the entry level machine which outperforms a P4 2.5Ghz by 45%. Hope to have UK pricing tomorrow afternoon .

Just reading around the web, the new Mac's are dual CPU?
So comparing against a single CPU P4 isn't really a level playing field. Have to compare to Dual Xeons with HT and SMP XPs as well IMO.

Didn't think you could get a dual Xenon for less than £1300.
Certianly on the Sevrer side of things you can't stick dual Xenons in a 1U rackmounter server due to heat issues.
Its just interesting where Apple are going and it looks like its now make or break from them. It not the hardware as there is little doubt its more reliable and has a better architecture but the OS strategy is alienating its customers. OSX whilst is probably the best OS out there has few killer apps to make people really want to move over right now but no Quark which is the big market.

Hmm..
Crappy picture cos it's a webcam jobbie but..
In 4U I have 16 Ghz of processing power (Dual Xeon 2Ghz in each), 12 disks, 8 Network adapters and a potential of 48GB RAM.

Have seen the new G4's and they are rather nice, methinks the office will be aquiring one soon.
I am sooooooooooo not going to get into the apple vs PC debate. I don't have much choice as we're a mac software devleoper, but I do have a PC at home.
If you want to play games get a pc, macs are just not too good at that. To be honest, if I need to run a PC app at work I fire up Virtual PC, works groovy for me.

Agree with markus that most games are a waste of time on a Mac as few decent ones get ported over.
ChrisB thanks for the info on the dual Xeon servers, I stand corrected and I think Apple also do now , or will. What manufacturer are they from ?
