Dudes,
May I point out that computers are NOT my major subject but this is really getting on my ****!!
INow i don't mind things going wrong if i can see why and i can fix 'em but does my head in if there is no aparent reason
Now here's my beef,
When booting up and closing down, my PC takes bloody ages! Now once it's up and running, it's fine, internet download speed is as it's always been and any applications i open are fine....it's just starting up and closing down. I takes about 4 mins to do each task. It used to take 1 minute MAX!
I have not added any bizzare programmes, or deleted anything.
In laymans terms, is there anything I can do to try get my speed back?
I appreciate that you will all probably need a million other bits of information, but guesses greatly appreciated.
Ta
Mikey

It's probably all that guff you put on and take off clogging up your registry. Companies don't uninstall properly leaving loads of guff in the registry which then takes longer to search and do stuff.
Just wipe it mate and clean install it all again (after making sure you've backed up all your important data )

Ya spoon
I might be free one day this weekend. We're planning on heading over to see the folks one day, but should be free t'other.
Important data....documents, finances, address book, bookmarks, dial up accounts, etc. Stuff that wouldn't be on there after a clean install that you want to keep.
I'll see if I can fit you in at the weekend (missus)

Mikey,
Put some stickers on it and a louder fan , that will make it go quicker.
Hanslow,
The registry shouldn't slow it down that much , suggest the standard defrag , temp clearout, and virus check.

Dave, I'm gonna scare the pants off Mike and go for the full clean install....only way to be sure
At least then he might become educated in the ways of computers (but I doubt it )

What about something like Regcleaner ???
Available as shareware, just search for it on Google.
Firstly use it only to clean the registry. DO NOT remove any software unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing.
