Right doing a program for my old man for recording switches
Whats the best way of presenting this data on a Vb from?
theres about 10 heading!
I was thinking using text boxes to make it look neat then have about 10 per page but i dunno how i could code this as ive only being taught how to add 1 per page and how to go threw the records like that

Why use VB? - you're on the wrong road thinking that hundreds of text boxes in VB is the way to display and store repetitive data. This looks like a good candidate for MS Access. Just create a table and use the wizard to make a suitable form(s)...or maybe it's just an Excel spreadsheet. I can't really say which until I know what problem you're really trying to automate
Martin
PS anything else we can help you with - I seem to recall you're doing some IT related course at college - but we seem to be the first port of call for a lot of quite simple questions about this sort of stuff
...Some advice (yes, I'm old, so I'm allowed to give it!) is to understand the basics about data and information (like entities, their relationships and their attributes) in the real world. Go find a book about it - and read it for a couple of hours and really think about the subject. Don't rush round web pages on the Internet, speed reading and then thinking its dead easy. Learn about the common data processing tools (predominantly Access, Excel and VB in the MS world) - especially what they can and can't do easily - and spend a bit of time looking at, and playing with the sample apps that come with them.
..then you'll find that choosing the right IT package on which to base a solution for a given real world problem is easy and you can use the strengths of the tool to your advantage, making the everything a whole lot simpler (and more rewarding)
Good luck...
PPS and next time you post a screen shot, don't give away that you're also on the Corsa bbs

<<havent read that but im BSc Software Enginnering
Vbs main project its that or java need practice>>
Hmmm....run that past me one more time?
If you're going for a BSc, I would have thought that you definitely need to spend time really understanding all this data stuff (logical data models, entity relationship diagrams, domains, attributes, referential integrity, tables, columns, constraints, indexes/keys etc etc) rather than rushing around practicing programming.
Battling with inappropriate software tools for the problem in hand is a) hard, b) a waste of time c) unprofessional (and presumably after your BSc, if you stay in the IT business, you'd want to be seen to do your work in a professional manner) d) fundamentally the wrong thing to do
Java eh? If you want practice in Java, why not choose a problem where Java is the right solution...unless you think that Java is appropriate to a data oriented system with a non-trivial UI that (probably) only needs to run in a Microsoft environment
Sorry if I sound like an old f**t, but it's probably 'cos I am. On the other hand, all this stuff has been part of my day job for 20 years or so and I'd rather have someone in my programming team who understood the basics and was bright enough to pick up a new development tool, rather than someone who could race around the VB developoment environment at the speed of light, but not actually know how to properly solve a real world problem with it.
All, of course, IMHO...

Simon,
You may be much better off using some kind of grid control for this kind of thing. I don't use VB, so do not know what is available. A grid control looks like the cells on an Excel spreadsheet but you have programatic control over what you can do in each cell/colours/fonts/editing rights etc. etc. (Hope thsi isn't eggs, grandma, suck etc.)
Cheers

im think concatonating (spelling)
into 1 string per line so all data "wew" + "wewew"+" + "" etc the printing then EOF in some kinda text box

Si,
I can't see what your problem with Martin's advice was. He was giving you the benefit of his experience and IMHO his advice was sound (I've been in IT for 15 years). Nothing he said warranted the abuse you directed at him.
Seems to me rather strange to ask for help/advice and then harshly criticise someone who actually gives you some.

Came with netscape beta
But there was no advice given, sorry for my miss interpriation i cant see any?
ive read a 860 page book Beginning VB 6 Databas programming, ISBN1-861001-06-1, also 1000 on VB teaching in 21days. Ive also got 100's books on java, none of it is relevant to my problem which is why i used this.
Ok then What would your Solution be?

don't ned access on daad machine - u can make equivalent of access distribtable (sp?) in Access and then 'deploy' on trgt mc.
