I have heard today that Compaq have pulled out of the development of the new XEON 8-way/16-way based systems for 2002. Thus -- any Compaq customer who is looking to upgrade today is being urged by HP/Compaq to stick to old technology, or, wait for 6 months when they hope to have something out in 2003 (classic Compaq Sales strategy).

In the meantime, only IBM & Fujitsu Siemens Computers have scalable 8-way Intel XEON Servers (PRIMERGY T850) utilising the latest Intel Xeon technology.

ALR (or was it AST?) got brought out by Gateway when they were looking to 'crack' the server market.
