Default Whats a really decent quality Freeview box?

As per title?

I've had two Manhattan Plaza HDs2 and both have gone faulty at 15 months old...and they are only used when I'm here, which is a max of five months per year.

I don't want recording, just HD and reliable.

Humax always gets good reviews. I've got a freeview HD Humax box which has recording functions.

We've had a Humax for 6 odd years and it's been great. It's a Hard Drive model, which is really useful. I'm looking to update soon and will go for another Humax.

Not a huge amount of choice on the market now, if you're not looking for a box with recording ability. Humax seems to be the only recognizable quality brand still making them. I've been very happy with my Panasonic recorder since getting it 3 years ago, but if I was looking for a cheaper receive-only unit to go in a spare room for example, I might go for an 'August' or 'Icecrypt' offering from Amazon. No idea of reliability, but reviews seem pretty good.

Rather than start a new thread thought I'd bump an old one. What are your thoughts on the best freeview boxes available now. Cancelled Sky today, I have a +box so can I use this instead of buying a freeview box? Any help is appreciated.

Your Sky box is a Freesat receiver as it gets its signal from a satellite rather than Freeview that comes via an aerial. You will still be able to use it as a receiver to access all of the free to air channels though will not be able to use the recording function.

Can't go wrong with Humax in my opinion.

Got a 30 quid Goodmans for the tv in the kitchen never had any issues with it.

Slightly different note, might be a good time to upgrade your tv for one that has it all built in, our 46 inch less than 300 quid Blaupunkt flat screen jobbie does all manner of stuff, youtube, skype, bbc iplayer etc,etc all through the Virgin media box that does internet etc for around 20 odd quid a month, bonus being you can watch what you want via the net for no extra charge.

Basically, I've bought same again, this time with a Currys 3 year guarantee...doesn't matter if it breaks down every year, we get new.

And it was only £44 against the french price of €90.
