Default New laptop, Firefox, small problem?

So, I got my new laptop, this one: http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_X552C...H_1470440.html

Installed AVG and Firefox.
It's running Windows 8, (oh dear....WHY???????????????)

Now, every time I enter a website address it brings up a window telling me it's not a secure connection and do I want to continue?

(I had the laptop hardwired to my Virgin router, since I don't want to connect wirelessly here, as experience has shown me that if I do, I'll have MUCHO trouble connecting wirelessly to the Orange Livebox over in France, which is basically what the new 'puter is for.)

Every time I get that message, I have to tell it I understand the dangers and make an exclusion.

Does anyone know why? Is it me? Is it Virgin? Is it Firefox? Is it Windows 8?

I'd HATE to have to revert to IE..........
And I'm not a big fan of Chrome either.

Any advice gratefully received.

I think before you start using it, make sure its done all the updates...becuase it should be on Windows 8.1 not 8.0.

Never know it may sort it out.

Its probably a security setting somewhere which is warning you when you go to a http:/ website as opposed to a https:/ one, but on win 8 I can't tell you specifically where to look to find this setting.

OK, I'll reconnect to the internet, see if it wants to do any updates.

It didn't seem to do any yesterday, yet the one I'm using here, first time I switched it on, it did 74...took nearly a full day!!!

Windows 7 mind.

Mate has taken it away to put MS Office/Word on it, and is going to delete AVG, which we think MIGHT problem and put Sophos on it.

That's mostly because its always been free. I've never rated it to be honest.

Yes because its free and easy for them or you to install. The actual protection it provides has always been poor.

is it every website or just ones starting https:// ?

and is it the web browser giving you the message

if so it sounds like a SSL public key issue - i.e. the browser cant locate the SSL root certificate in its local store

so the automatic and implicit "trust" model is not working - hence what it is actually asking you is "do you trust this website"
