Default Quick iPad question

I have a old iPad (think the 1st gen)
Now I can't update it anymore (no new updates for a while now) because it's probably too old lol.
Every now and then it doesn't like some websites especially with pictures/photos/videos and kind of crashes and goes to home screen (may need updates to cope with newer websites)

Now the question is, which gen iPad (cheapest) I can get that still has the updates.
I'm not after nothing fancy, I primarily use it just for web browsing the Internet at home over wifi sat on my sofa with my feet on the poof chilling. But 16g is ideal for me so I can save a few photo and stream music on hifi.

Gracias.

Edit- found iPad 2 onwards updates to iOS 7, the iPad 1 stops at iOS 5.
Might just get the iPad 3 for the retna screen and that will do for another 5 years or so.

I updated to ipad 3 with Retina screen, mainly for my photo work, the wife had my 1st gen ipad and uses chrome rather than safari when brousing the internet as it seems a lot more stable. I use safari and it doesn't crash at the moment. All of my old apps can now update on the latest iOS. Didn't want to spend too much money so the ipad3 cost me £300 second hand just before Christmas

Never thought of using chrome, still using safari. Maybe that's the problem.

Is it google chrome your wife uses on gen 1 as that will only download for iOS 6 onwards so won't let me get it?

Good Lord, you have to use the competitions browser just to get it to move.

You're walking on dangerous ground there, have a think about how old an iPad has to be to stop getting updates then consider the competition, Android especially is shocking.

I have both the 1 and 2 and Air.

1 is used solely for Netflix by kids now, my 2 is starting to chug, compared to the wifes Air which flys.

I bought myself a Sony Xperia Z2 to fill the Gap till Apples next release, Its been a pleasant surprise, fast streams anything without trouble and has FLASH woot.

I will however get the Ipad 5 6 or pro whatever comes out as they are still the best

personally get the Air, don't waste anything on the 2 its prob 12 months till its get side-lined

Agreed. My 2 is perfectly usable but you just know that the experience could be better.

iOS 8 will not run on iPhone 4. The lowest spec devices iOS 8 will run on are:
iPhone 4S
iPod Touch 5th Generation
iPad 2nd Generation

It seems to run very slow on a 5th Gen iPod Touch from the little I've played with it. iPad 3rd Gen seems ok though.

No official release date announced yet, but I'd take a stab and say 17th September, and September 19th for the release of the iPhone 6 and possibly other hardware (I expect there to be a press conference announcing the new phone and possibly other things on 9th September)

For the iPad 1, that was 560 days: release date 3rd April 2010, last iOS it could run released 25th May 2012

The 2012 Nexus 7 is at 492 days: release date 13th July 2012, latest Android released 2nd June 2014.

Not too much in it.

The iPad 2 is far more impressive at 813 days and counting, which I doubt anything else is likely to match (except perhaps a Surface), but that doesn't help anyone with an iPad 1.
