Default Storing files on a cloud?

Safe?
To be avoided?
Secure/not secure?

Any comments welcome, thanks.

I personally would not store any important info there. Great for things like photos though as they will be backed up by the server and wont be lost if your hard disk falls over.

Depends who you go with and what they offer so read up on each one and make your choice.

For secure stuff I use Mega www.mega.co.nz as it's encrypted as it leaves your pc and can't be decrypted by anyone else.

You also get 50gb storage free.

For general file syncing between devices and camera uploads I use Dropbox.

Mega is very good. I just wish it wasn't Kim Dotcom, customers freak out.

I use iCloud, Dropbox, Github, Drive, Mega and Box in that order.

And if you're signing up for Dropbox use this link https://db.tt/CBhSTkg 500mb extra free space.

Weirdly that's exactly what I do though encrypted and a randomly generated password needed to get to it (use KeePass). Means all my important info is accessible should the worst case scenario ever happen (i.e. house burns down).

I have found iCloud to be fairly useless since it attempts to hide everything behind the apps which isn't what I need.

Instead, I've ad hoc uploaded various files to Google Drive.

How incredibly refreshing to visit a web-site (i.e. MEGA) that doesn't have a single leeching third-party link (e.g. doubleclick.net, google-analytics.com, ajax.googleapis.com and so on) waiting to slurp your IP address, referrer, cookies etc.. And i mean ZERO, nuffink, not the slightest chance of a remote peek in into what you are doing!

If you're not using multiple Apple devices nor Apple apps then I guess it would be pretty useless. It's totally fantastic for me as I use Apple Office apps and have four devices that I like to keep in sync, wifi and web site passwords are a boon.

I route the name resolution to all those crap analytic sites to a null IP address in a host file

But your right, when I access websites from machines that don't do that, I am staggered by the amount of URL redirects that go on

Shocking really
