Stupid 'puters playing games again...CD-ROM drive this time.
OK, it won't connect to the drive to either play, or burn a CD.
When I check, I get the following message:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
But I got it to check for correct drivers both on the thing itself and from online, and it came back saying the drivers were correct.
The troubleshooter is the usual use...none.
Any suggestions?
Acer AX3960, Windows 7, DVD Super-Multi drive.
TIA

I've had a few Dells do this in the past, but I'll be damned if I can remember how I fixed it.
All I do know is uninstall/reinstall doesn't work, as uninstall doesn't remove the corrupted files and it doesn't clear the registry entries properly either.
I "think" what I had to do was manually erase all traces of of the files and registry entries relating to the DVD drive, then reboot and pray auto-detect downloads and installs the drivers correctly. Where I looked in the registry and what file names/locations I deleted are what I can't help with, sorry.

Op, have you tried a system restore to a earlier date? Just seems
a lot of hassle with the current tactic to me.
