Question Polishing painted interior bits?

Recently noticed my 09 STI gear surround getting grubby and now I can't stop noticing it.

This silver part as below. Anyone ever had any joy polishing it with something like megs PlastX or would I just end up wearing down the paint? Mine isn't super bad, just light scratches. less bad than the one in the pic.

A light polish should be fine, but I doubt there's any lacquer or much thickness to the paint even.
Try Autofiness Tripple (polishes, waxes and has fillers) its good for light scratches and doesn't cut too harsh.
