i bought a second hand set of bc coilovers that had the uprated rubber top mount fitted to eliminate road noise and they were fitted with road friendly springs so my car doesnt bounce down the road

happy so far,just need a fast road set up now

 

good to hear mate, got my eye on some cuscos.

 

im going to carnetix to get a fast road set up if you fancy popping over aswell

 

Cusco are hard or if you want firm,they're made for Japan roads,not UK,they're very similar to the Tein and few other Japan specific coilovers

I had tein lowering springs on my classic and last bug. If there similar to that ride I didn't think it was to bad.
Is the ride much firmer than bc's?

Just be careful with coilovers mate, Make sure you pick the right coilover for your needs, Dont just pick a set up because there cheap, in my experience I have found Jap coilovers(HKS, Cusco, etc) way to hard for our roads, even some of the Tein coilovers I have found to hard!!

I know they can be expensive, but AST, KW coilovers, Eibach are much suited to our roads, I have Eibach pro street coilovers on my car, and I feel there the best of both worlds, the car drives nice/smooth on them, and there not as harsh as the jap brand coilovers!!

Nothing worse then having a rock hard set of coilovers, and giving it some and you hit a bit of un-even/bumpy road surface to really un-settle your car!!

i would steer clear of d2's

 

As above Japan specific coilovers like HKS,Cusco or Tein are harder/firmer than EU/US specific coilovers,just due they using harder spring rate than EU/US counterparts

Have run HSD HR which are firmer than BC,but still not harsh for our roads,KW is in different league like BC,AST is something in middle between the KW and BC,they're OK for UK roads and great for track too

Comparing springs to coilovers,you shouldn't,both can be same and different in many ways

Think I had these on my Evo(If there purple colour) had them on 2 weeks before being sold for a set of Tein coilovers!!! But then again the Tein on the Evo was o.k, but every set ive had on a scooby have been to hard!!!

Tough choice picking the right coilovers, dont envy you at all. Just glad I got my set-up already done when I bought the car!!!

 

Recently bought and had fitted a used set of tein super street coilovers to my bug wagon and am really pleased with them, firm but not in a harsh way and better than the spec c shocks and springs I had previously. Not had any experience with any others though and make sure your not buying something thats past its best.

 

You also got to take any other suspension mods you have into consideration, If you got thicker ARB, rear braces etc etc, then your car will be even stiffer Which is ok when your doing trackdays, but a overkill on your daily road car!!

My brother had on his STi:
Cusco coilovers with top mounts
Front and rear strut brace
Front and rear ARB (rear 24mm??)
Anti lift kit
Whiteline drop links
Chassis bracing
All uprated bushes etc

And the car would not move at all, you could feel every bump, and you know when it was to hard, when he got it mapped by Jolly Green Monster and he says that its the worst/hardest suspension he has ever experienced in a car! oh dear

only had the car 2 weeks think its pretty standard apart from front strut brace

 

I've got s/h Tein Super Streets fitted, s/h from a breakers but admittedly near new. They were too firm with 18" wheels and I nearly took them off but changed back to 17s instead and they're great now.

 

I have some Eibach Pro Street that need a refurb going cheap if your interested. CLASSIC FITMENT

 

got some kw variant 3 clubsports being fitted to mine in a few weeks bought second hand but worth every penny

 

My advice is to be very wary and make sure they're in great condition, I had a set of teins second hand that lasted less than 3K before they decoded they didn't want to play anymore, would have been better off buying new in the first place

I hated my D2's and Tein on my Integra Type R way to hard and bone shaking!
I fell into the trap that my Tein springs where great and thought the coilovers would be the same and they really where worlds apart!

Think I'm going to try some HSD's Dualtech's on my Bug a few people I know run them on Imprezas and other cars seem to think there good and not too much £££££

 

Had these on 2 of my scoobys now, by far the best coilovers for what I need!!

 

Probably worth finding out which ones can be easily and reasonably refurbished if the worst was to happen if buying second hand.

Just bought some used BC coilovers from Thwaites Developments and they seem fine, the fronts make a whooshing chirp noise over steep speed bumps (almost like chatter on a rally car) and the road noise through the tyres has doubled.

Think this is normal from what I've read..
