This from Neil Lyndon's review of the new Focus ST170 in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine, 7th April.
Apologies in advance to all Cossie owners who own sorted, well maintained vehicles. He isn't referring to you. The review goes on to heap praise on the ST170 but his introduction hits the Max Power-wannabe nail on the head. For me anyway. Puts that Yorkshire Post STI Type UK review into perspective. Enjoy.
"We have not been offered a new, fast Ford for five years but the old ones are - exasperatingly, maddeningly, frighteningly - still ever-present.
"That's one you can see filling your rearview mirror, so close that it seems as if its bonnet is being rammed halfway into your boot. It's baseball-capped driver is frantically looking for space, inside or outside, to overtake you and is shaking his head in sorrow and amazement at your determination to occupy a section of road that naturally belongs to him and to persist in living when the whole world can see that your are conspicuously past your natural span.
"When he goes past, you will see his girlfriend salute you with the middle finger of her left hand. You will then see him lock up his wheels to avoid a crash on the next roundabout and you will notice that he is driving a Ford Fiesta XR2i.
"Or it might be a Ford Escort XR3i or an RS2000. There is even a remote chance it might be a Cosworth Escort or a Cosworth Sierra. All of thesehigh-performace Fords were, in their different ways, admirable cars but it was their benighted fate to become the favourite conveyance of every yob, oik - or as they are known in Scotland - ned in the British Isles. Low purchase price, cheap spares and an abundance of glitzy trash to paste around the sills, spoliers and windscreens made the last generation of fast Fords every lout's car of choice. Those customers gave fast Fords such a nasty reputation that the company stopped building them..."

he`s right though, its a shame for the serious cozzy fanatics, and decent owners, i know loads of rs turbo owners, one who screems my scooby is SH*TE over a petrol station fore court, charmed im sure.
Same will happen to scoobs though, its not the car (its just a lump of metal) its the owners, when resale values drop to a price that 20 year old yobs can afford then the image will be tard.
Im sure there are loads of decent 20 year olds saving and working hard for a cozzy/scooby what ever that deserve a nice car, its just a shame ther are so many oiks

I don't reckon it matters what car their driving there'll always be idiots about, have to say ain't seen an escort cozzie in the autotrader for under 10 grand recently, how many scoob's are there for less than that? been hassled by a few scooby's mi sen anyway, you get some right *** eds coming up the lake district hooning around our back roads and ending up in hedges, learn to drive before you take on the locals!!!! you know who you are.
