Default 130k P1. Would you?

I've seen a P1 local to me for 4 grand but it has 130k on the clock.

Its had a rebuild and has FSH but in a couple of years, it'll be touching 150k so any chance of selling it will be slim so chances are it will be broken up.

Its a slice of history for not a lot of cash but then again, would I be opening a can of worms buying it?

I wouldnt mate, mainly for the reason you mentioned with regard to selling it on in the future. Fair enough its had a engine rebuild, but everything else on the car has done 130k too.

If it was me i would ask to look at the paperwork regarding the build to see who did it and what was actually done.
Ask to see the service history documentation and if all of the above checks out then you may have a bargain.

If it's a genuine P1 I would buy it if you intend to mod it.

I have a P1 and it the feel of the car that is different to any other Scoob.

4K for a proper P1 is very cheap with just over 700 left world wide.!

P1 for £4k must be worth a punt ... keep a few £k in reserve though just in case

I would say see if you can identify how much track time it has seen, as that obviously sees so much more stress on the chassis, but I have seen P1's over 100k looking absolutely mint, and i have seen some with 40k on the clock looking like real sheds, so depends on the example really.

For 4k I would only buy if I thought I was going to keep and cherish forever, wouldnt be considering re-sale as it wont be worth it... If would have at least another 4k left in the bank before buying though just to cover insurance and niggles for the first 18-24 months.

Can you take it for a drive and decide?

i bought a terzo another of subarus limited editions with a 132,000miles from a mate that had it for 2 yrs and did 6000miles in it. the car has been mapped for over 46,000miles running 350 bhp and 332ft/lbs no problems at all and before someone asks yes it get driven hard from time to time.

i dont agree with this ethos that scoobys cant run modified with high mileage cause my car prove that this isnt the case. i believe it has more to do with the cars history wether it has been looked after and driven with resonable machanical sympathy, ie warm up properly and so on . regular servicing is a must but thats the same for a brand new scooby.

as for the p1 its worth looking at in my opinion if its had a rebuilt as most have through out there lives. just be really carefull check it all as other have said . if its a dealer and they are reputable they will have no problem with you taking your time looking. same goes for a private seller.

good luck and dont let the miles put you off , mines getting a party thrown in its honour if and when it gets 200,000 miles which i have no doubt it will reach.

I'd only be tempted if it had a proper forged re-build from a reputable engine builder

I was a bit sceptical of the advert, as it says 'original condition' but then says 'walbro fuel pump and de-cat exhaust'. Plus the 130,000 miles is out down to 'going to car shows', but the photos are press photos/magazine photos, which is pretty lazy, surely if you're the type to go to car shows you'd have hundreds of photos of your car?? PLus the comment 'i can send 1 or 2 pics via mobile if necessary but these cars are all the same'...do you actually want to sell the car??!! Yes, could be a can of worms mate!!
If this is the same one anyway!!!

I bought my T Plate V5 STi with 94k on the clock. It came with the original sales invoice as it was bought new as a Grey Import. It's got all the MOT's, original service book, work sheets, parts lists from the garages where the work was done including the engine re-build at 86k by Subaru.

It's now getting a bit wooly but will get new bushes etc all round and apart from a few annoying niggles it's fine at just over 100k. It's going to be an ongoing project to keep for a long time.

Have a good look at the car and it's your choice. P1 will be rare soon and will maintain that "special" tag.
