Default THAT BLOODY DOES IT!!!!

RIGHT!!!

my car now has a screeching ear peicing noise coming from the front of my drivers side (YOU CAN EVEN HEAR IT WITH WINDOW UP) and at least i think it is.

if i steer left it stops. if i steer right it stops if i press the brake pedal it stops even if im only pressing the pedal lightly as in not even enough cause decrease in speed. In a straight line it makes me wanna park up and get the bus.

speed doesnt effect it either apart from getting louder.

its doing my nut in!!!!!.

HEEEELLLP!!!!

RANT OVER

cheers for reading fellars, im sure a scooby god will know the answer.

what other symptoms of the bearing would there be as there is no movement in the wheel like there normally it.

if u want a desciption of the noise its like a train stopping in the movies when the steel wheels screech along the steel tracks. u get the idea.

Could be a number of causes- Things to look at:

Wheel bearing play,
Dried/failing wheel bearing
Loose/incorrectly torqued wheel nuts (it has happened )
Sticking caliper piston
Heavily grooved/ridged disk surface
Build up of pad material/dirt on caliper sliders/ pads sticking on sliders
Worn pads,
Pad material breaking up
Internally collapsed/pinched/blocked flexible brake hose.

Possibly wheel nuts there rusting and the alloy is buckled won't be calipers or pads as there under 6 months old.

Pad wear indicators. Some garages fit them with the indicator bent up to stop the squeal, well mine did!

Jack the vehicle up.

Check for any other parts rubbing aroung the wheel and brakes. Can you here anything when you spin the wheel? If still nothing then check for free-play in the bearing by rocking the wheel up and down.

Have a look at the wear indicators on the top of the pad. It's just a piece of sprung metal that touches the disk when they get low. If that spring was damaged or bent when the pads were installed that would cause your problem.

If you still have not found it then remove the pads and check over, still nothing remove the caliper and check over.

You're gonna need to get your hands dirty matey.

my pf front pads once had a sort of lip ( like excess metal on the edge) which made a similair noise after about a week after fitting. took pads of, gave them a slight shaving on excess edge and noise stopped.

mine did the same and it was one of the pistons in the caliper, had no ill effects on braking or steering but it killed a redstuff pad within a week and made a mess of the wheel with hot brake dust.

Mine was and still is doing the same thing, i did my brakes about 6months ago uprated and fitted new seals at the same time. But wish i had done the pistons now, as when i had my brakes in bits i had to get a load of rust off the pistons. When i cleaned all the parts the pistons did not go back in smooth, i taken the wheel off last week to check the noise or to see what the problem was, even tuck the caliper off cleaned ever thing and all is good. But the noise is still there.
I would say your pistons are sticking i was going to do them this week but dealer dont stock them.

The wear indicators on ebc pads are two metal spikes concealed in the pad material.
