Default ive been told i wont need a remap.

alright folk im currently going through a turbo upgrade for my rb5, the current mod list is as below

full exhaust system with downpipe,
induction kit
boost controller
ecutek remap

my mechanic who is a well know and respected scooby modifier has said that when i put my new turbo in (tdo516) along with uprated fuel pump and fuel regulator, i shouldnt need another remap as there is enough info on the existing remap,

any thoughts

The boost profile will eb completely different to td04 you are currently running and also will probably end up running lean.
Do it proper fella and get it mapped again, save yourself the dreaded engine rebuild for the sake of £250.

mm, think you need to switch mechanics, realy bad idea indeed runnign a turbo without mapping.

tbh if i were you i'd hang fire till you have the turbo and fuel pump then get it mapped the one, will save you some money

On the bright side, at least you should already have a ecutek licence, so the next remap will be cheaper

id def get a remap if changing the turbo, it will affect so much as had been said above, id like to know who the scooby mechanic is asim from belfast myself and after hearing that would avoid him.....andy F will prob be back over again at paul murrays place so it would be worth waiting for, i might get a tweak on the apexi too and some 550's with an 18g

Sorry mate but it does beg the question?

Yes it will drive okay and wont poo itself off boost, but if you plan on driving it properly then id get it at least det/fueling checked.

I personally wont fit windscreen wipers without a map change!

Me too!

Sensible advice though: AFR and det must be checked for with appropriate equipment at the very leasst.

I very much doubt you'll get anything like the best from the turbo without the map being altered though. Td05 rather different beast from the 04.

fair enough its been mapped but changing the turbo is a big mod,in simple terms im sure a TD05 16g will be sucking more air than a TD04 at the same revs therefore ull be needing more fuel, id at least get it checked to see that is getting enough fuel to compensate and if u up the boost theres a chance of det....as said its not much for a remap as uv already got the licence.

I would question the 440's too on a TD05 depending on what boost u run....they are at 90% on my car at around 1.38 bar on the VF35 and overboost to 1.42 bar at one stage saw IDC at 97% and a TD05 generally tends to make another 10-20bhp than a VF35

well michael has worked on my car and i would get him to service it too and i know he is well trusted and has a good rep.....id say 100% he wouldnt let the car out of his garage unless it was completely safe and relaible, at the end of the day hes a mechanic and im not lol but i just always be wary of fueling and det etc when increasing boost or adding a bigger turbo.

Tbh i didnt expect my injectors to be running around the 90% mark on my car as i couldnt see power being more than 300 or so but at least the apexi is good for keeping an eye on things like that

yea like u said above im pretty sure everything is going to be fine, but i posted this as i myself thought i would needed to treak the map, but id say michael def has all the equipment to set it up properly, would still be intrested to know when andy f is cumming back to ni,

scubbay ill usually put a post up in advance whenever theres a date set, if i can get a few quid saved up i wouldnt mind a few more mods :-)

its a slippery slope, tryin to keep it from the woman is tough too lol all my parts cost 50 quid and the remap was 100 haha

For all the doomsayers, can one of you explain why it will run lean with the bigger turbo, the air goes through the MAF, is measured and fuelling applied, the AFR's will be just as good or bad on the new trubo as the old won't they?

Having said that, the boost control will be poor and you won't get much more power out of it without the boost increases its capable of!

Increased airflow will run off the ECU's load scales as currently configured for the smaller turbo, just as much of a concern would be incorrect ignition timing for the current specification.
