When driving the other day in fifth, not really spirited either, the car seemed to jump out of fifth gear although not fully back to neutral position???? Its only started the other day and done it twice??
Any ideas, much appreciated!!!

 

I had exactly the same thing with my 2000 impreza.

It turns out that it is a common problem with the bolt that holds the gear in place coming loose and allowing it to pop out as you take your foot off the gas.

Still cost me over £200 to get it fixed. Important to go to a recommended gearbox firm and tell them you believe it is a loose bolt.

 

The ' big nut ' on the back of the gear train has a habit of coming loose. Once loose, it allows endfloat of the gears and will cause jumping out of 5th and problems selecting reverse.

Catch it quick and it can be sorted just by doing the nut up properly. Leave it and you face the risk of replacing various expensive gearbox parts.

It can be done here while you wait, if you wish. Cost around £200.00 + VAT including oil and seals and gaskets.
